The requirements for citizens of Canada and Mexico are different. :: NAFTA NAFTA is the North American Free Trade Agreement. It creates special economic and trade relationships for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico by providing for expedited admission of business persons from each country. :: H-1B/L-1 to TN The limits on stay for H-1B and L nonimmigrants do not apply to TN aliens. Also, Canadian and Mexican professionals who have already completed the total years in the H-1B or L category can immediately qualify for TN without having to fulfill the requirement of one-year abroad imposed on H-1B and L aliens. :: Non-Immigrant Intent TN Visa may be granted only to persons seeking temporary entry without the intent to establish permanent residence. :: Benefits of TN Visas Applicants may bring their dependents (spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21) to live with them in the U.S in TD Visa Status. Dependents are eligible to attend public schools; however, they may not seek employment, unless they legally change their Non-Immigrant Status.
